Benefits of Rutabaga

Below are some health benefits of one of the December produce items, but first what is a rutabaga? A rutabaga is a root vegetable, that is a cross between a turnip and cabbage and tastes similar to the two.  More uncommon in the U.S., you may find this vegetable at a farmer’s market rather than the grocery store. It’s harvest season is April through December. Rutabagas are great for boosting our immune system as one serving has 53% of Vitamin C. Rutabagas are high in potassium and low in sodium which lowers blood pressure. Rutabaga is a great veggie to add to your meal plan when trying to lose weight. It is high in fiber, and low in calories. Only 66 calories per serving!!
