Health Benefits of Arugula

I talked a little about the many different types of lettuce, but today I’m focusing on one of my favorites arugula. Arugula, also known as rucola, salad rocket, and Italian cress, originated in the Mediterranean area and is a member of the Cruciferous family. Arugula is high in fiber and phytochemicals and low in sugar, calories, carbohydrates, and fat. Arugula has been known to help with high blood pressure due to the potassium in it, help with bone health because of the calcium, and support the production of DNA due to folate, which is particularly important for pregnant women or women trying to get pregnant.
