A favorite holiday ingredient, dates have become much more popular in recent years. Dates are the fruit of date palm tree, grown in many tropical regions. Dates are mostly sold dried, which gives them that wrinkled skin appearance. Dates are chewy and sweet like raisins, and are very nutritious. Dates contain several vitamins and minerals, in addition to fiber and antioxidants. Dates are higher in calories, but they are a wonderful natural sweetener.
