So many different types of citrus fruits, it’s hard to keep track of them all. Tangelos are on the February produce list and are a hybrid of a tangerine and a grapefruit. They have a unique elongated shape with a bottle top neck. Two common varieties are the Minneola tangelos and the ugli tangelo. Tangelos have a sweet and zesty taste with little to no seeds. They have many nutritional benefits… high in Vitamin A and C which help with visual health and immune strength; loaded with minerals such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium all which help regulate blood pressure; high amounts of fiber which are good for digestive health; and tangelos contain flavonoids which is a nutrient that helps in minimizing the risk of strokes and other cardiovascular diseases.
