Health Benefits of Strawberries

I’m highlighting another produce item off the March produce list. Strawberries are a favorite of our household and their season begins now through summer. Although strawberries can be found all year long in the grocery stores, you can tell by their color and taste when they are at their peak season. Strawberries belong to the rose family and have a very distinct aroma. There are more than 200 varieties of strawberries grown in the U.S.. Strawberries have many health benefits as listed below, but one of the most important is the high levels of heart-healthy antioxidants such as ellagic acid and flavonoids. These antioxidants help lower cholesterol and risk of cardiovascular diseases, as well as help reduce the formation of blood clots that are linked with stroke.
