Every month I introduce the produce list for that month and highlight a few of the health benefits of the fruits and veggies. Today and next month, I will also highlight a few herbs that are also very important to our nutrition. Today’s herb is mint. Mint is a popular flavor in many foods, and comes in a variety of plants species such as spearmint and peppermint. Mint has been known to help with IBS, a common digestive disorder. Mint can also help with indigestion, speeding up the food that moves through the stomach. Menthol, a primary compound in peppermint oil, has been known to relieve some common cold symptoms. If you experience some bad breath trouble, peppermint tea and chewing on mint leaves may be beneficial in reducing bacteria that cause bad breath.
