Health Benefits of Chives

Did you know that even chives have many health benefits, and because they are on May’s produce list I thought I would share some of them with you. Chives are the smallest member of the onion family. This onion, or commonly used as an herb, is native to Europe, North America, and parts of Asia. Chives are bulbous plants, but their stems are long and hollow and the part of the plant that is used the most. Chives are used in many dishes, but they are also used for medicinal purposes as well similar to that of a garlic. Listed below are many health benefits of chives. One more health benefit that I will add to this list, is chives can help improve vision and slow or prevent macular degeneration due to the carotenes found in chives.
