Carbohydrates… does anyone else have a love/hate relationship with these??? You don’t want to love carbohydrates because you know that you shouldn’t be eating them but why are they so good?!?! Well, you may be in luck because there are actually two different types of carbohydrates, and one may be better for you than the other. Complex carbohydrates are made up of “sugar molecules that are strung together in long, complex chains” therefore they take longer to break down and release energy gradually. These include foods such as beans, whole grains, certain fruits and veggies, and lentils. Simple carbohydrates are quickly digested, low in fiber and nutrients, and are made up of refined, processed sugar. These include foods such as candy, chocolate, white bread, cola, and white rice. Check out the link below to discover more about simple vs. complex carbohydrates and how to choose the carbs that are best for you!!
