Why is it effective?

Interval training allows you to beat the “stress adaptation response,” which is what happens when your body gets used to exercising at one level of exertion and stops improving. INSANITY uses MAX Interval Training, which replaces your moderate- intensity exercise with maximum-intensity exercise, and your short intervals of intensity with short periods of rest. Shakeology Spotlight Ingredient: Quinoa

Quinoa is one of my favorites! Many people have never heard of it nor know how to pronounce (I didn’t either about 2 years ago)! It is pronounced keen-wa. 

What is quinoa?
While quinoa is usually considered to be a whole grain, it is actually a seed, but can be prepared like whole grains such as rice or barley. Quinoa is my favorite whole grain for three reasons: First, it takes less time to cook than other whole grains – just 10 to 15 minutes. Second, quinoa tastes great on its own, unlike other grains such as millet or teff. Add a bit of olive oil, sea salt and lemon juice and – yum OR vegetable broth! Finally, of all the whole grains, quinoa has the highest protein content, so it’s perfect for vegetarians and vegans. Quinoa provides all 9 essential amino acids, making it a complete protein. Quinoa is a gluten-free and cholesterol-free whole grain, is kosher for Passover, and is almost always organic.

Culinary ethnologists will be interested to know that quinoa was a staple food for thousands of years in the Andes region of South America as one of just a few crops the ancient Incas cultivated at such high altitude. Who would not want to reap the benefits of this amazing superfood?

1. Quinoa is one of the most protein-rich foods we can eat. It is a complete protein containing all nine essential amino acids. (already stated above)

2. Quinoa contains almost twice as much fiber as most other grains. Fiber is most widely known to relieve constipation. It also helps to prevent heart disease by reducing high blood pressure and diabetes. Fiber lowers cholesterol and glucose levels, may lower your risk of developing hemorrhoids and may help you to lose weight as it takes a longer time to chew than does other foods because it makes you feel fuller for longer and is less “energy dense” which means it has fewer calories for the same volume of food.
3. Quinoa contains Iron. Iron helps keep our red blood cells healthy and is the basis of hemoglobin formation. Iron carries oxygen from one cell to another and supplies oxygen to our muscles to aid in their contraction. Iron also increases brain function because the brain takes in about 20% of our blood oxygen. There are many benefits of iron some more of which include neurotransmitter synthesis, regulation of body temperature, aids enzyme activity and energy metabolism.

4. Quinoa contains lysine. Lysine is mainly essential for tissue growth and repair.
5. Quinoa is rich in magnesium. Magnesium helps to relax blood vessels and thereby to alleviate migraines. Magnesium also may reduce Type 2 diabetes by promoting healthy blood sugar control. Other health benefits of magnesium include transmission of nerve impulses, body temperature regulation,detoxification, energy production, and the formation of healthy bones and teeth.
6. Quinoa is high in Riboflavin (B2). B2 improves energy metabolism within brain and muscle cells and is known to help create proper energy production in cells.
7. Quinoa has a high content of manganese. Manganese is an antioxidant, which helps to prevent damage of mitochondria during energy production as well as to protect red blood cells and other cells from injury by free radicals.
All of these amazing benefits in one little grain??? I love quinoa as a side dish or even the main dish mixed with vegetables! Schizandra (sometimes spelled Schisandra) berries are a powerful adaptogen. Probably its best known property is as a protector of the liver, due to the lignans it contains. It helps maintain its proper functioning and regeneration and is also used to prevent liver damage. Schizandra uses its fat soluble compounds found in the core of its seed to protect the liver from toxins. Schizandra is often used in the treatment of hepatitis C. Besides its liver protecting properties, it is also beneficial to the kidneys as it helps balances the fluid in the body. This amazing herb also contains antioxidants, such as gomisin A and Wuweizisu C, to protect your cells from free radicals and prevent oxidation. This is why it’s often used in longevity formulas in Chinese medicine.
 
Schizandra is very popular among woman for its ability to make the skin soft, smooth and beautiful. It has been taken for many hundreds of years in China for this purpose. It is believed to work by balancing the fluids of the skin. This herb is popular with people who suffer from mental disorders such as anxiety, depression and mood swings. Though it’s unknown how it works for these symptoms, Schizandra has been used for these ailments for many hundreds of years with much success.
 
Though not enough research has been done in this area, there is some preliminary evidence that Schizandra my inhibit cancer cell growth for some types of cancers, such as leukemia. Much more research needs to be done before this will be considered a truly effective treatment.
 
For men, this herb may be beneficial for impotence and erectile dysfunction since it has the ability to dilate the blood vessels, helping men achieve erection.
 
As far as heart health goes, this herb’s blood vessel dilating properties are also good for lowering blood pressure, improving circulation and improving heart function in general. Schizandra is beneficial to the respiratory system too. It rids the body of lung mucus by acting as expectorant. It is also used to treat coughs.

Shakeology Ingredient SPOTLIGHT: Sacha Inchi

Have you heard of Sacha Inchi nuts? Also called Inca peanuts, these nuts are making a big splash in the world of superfoods.

The Sacha Inchi is a plant that grows in the highlands of Peru. It produces a seed that tastes like a nut when roasted. Like many healthy nuts, it’s a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, as well as omega-6s and omega-9s. It also contains vitamin A and E. Can you say healthy snack?

A Little More About Sacha Inchi
Though the nuts and oil may be new to many of us here in North America, Sacha Inchi has been cultivated in the Amazon rainforest and along the east slope of the lower Andes for 3,000 years. Archaelogists found evidence of them in carvings on Incan tomb vessels. Plants are said to have a long production time, with some producing year after year for decades. Crops are harvested throughout the year, though costs are lower than those of other oil-producing plants.

The cold-pressed oil is said to contain about 45 percent omega-3 fatty acid, 36 percent omega 6, and 9 percent omega 9, with 27 percent protein. Some experts are calling it the tasty alternative to fish oil supplements.

The oil is used for cooking. It’s said to have a crisp, nutty flavor that’s perfect for salads, meat, fish, poultry, and sprinkled over vegetable dishes. You can use it like olive oil, though it’s said to be lighter, better tasting, and easier for your body to absorb.

Sacha Inchi pulp is a by-product used for soap, flour, bread, and in cosmetics and medicinal creams.

Health Benefits
If you know omega-3s, you can guess at the health benefits of these tasty nuts and oil. Foodies are especially excited about them because the nutrients are apparently easier to digest than those from other sources, so your body can easily take advantage of the healthy properties. Fans say that the oil does not cause gas or irritation, yet it contains more protein than olive oil, and far more omega-3 fatty acids (in the form of linolenic acid) than olive, soy, sunflower, or flax oils.

Because of the omega-3 content, Sacha Inchi nuts and oil are likely to positively benefit cardiovascular health. Specifically, they may lower cholesterol levels, boost brain function, ease joint stiffness, help maintain healthy glucose levels, support healthy skin and hair, relieve inflammation throughout the body, and support the eyes and optimal vision. Scientific studies specifically on Sacha Inchi are minimal at this point, but considering its composition, these are the likely advantages to be gained by incorporating more of this superfood into the diet.

Vegans and raw foodist’s are especially excited about this food as it provides a plant-based way to get a good supply of omega-3 fatty acids. In addition, the oil is extracted by simple cold pressing, so no refining process is necessary. Because of the antioxidants vitamin E and A, it may also help battle the free radical damage that can lead to premature aging. The nuts are high in protein and amino acids—another plus for vegans. They contain nothing toxic or damaging to good health, so you can eat as many as you like!

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?Before I started I was a sedentary, insecure shell of who I am now. I got married at 21, got pregnant immediately and due to medication, was unable to lose the weight that I’d gained. I suffered from depression and anxiety. I HATED going in to my closet and would just cry after trying on outfit after outfit. WIth a very strict diet I lost a little weight right before I got pregnant with my 2nd daughter, but had a very inactive,junk-food filled pregnancy. After the birth of her, I was a 170lb, 24 yr old. I didn’t want to go out to social functions because no matter what the weather, I was going to have to figure out what body slimmer, or girdle, or sweater I was going to to wear to make my body look “OK”. I got to the point where I thought I was too worthless to exercise. I was so ashamed of myself. I wanted to go out, and be active, and live life like a young woman in her 20’s with two beautiful daughters and an amazing husband should, but was too disgusted to even try.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?What inspired me to begin was a picture taken of me at a family dinner. I didn’t even recognize myself. That was not me. I am fun. I am not tired. I am excited about life, and active. That was NOT who I saw in the picture. My mom saw how upset I was and said, “you have to try this workout. It’s called TurboJam.” She turned on the dvd and I watched this tiny energetic blonde woman, dancing and kickboxing along side other beautiful bodied, energetic women. “Those are all models that signed up for some casting call and got in the dvd.” I said. Then I watched more and the energy was pulling me in. I listened to the testimonials of the REAL WOMEN doing TJ and realized, “they are NOT models. They are MOMS, they are people that are working their butts off to be like they are!” I took the dvd home and worked out to it that night, 4/12/2008. As I punched and kicked and pumped away with a smile on my face, my husband looked at me and said, “this is the thing that’s going to change your life”
Why did you choose the particular program?I chose TurboJam, because of the amazing energy of Chalene Johnson. She is an incredible motivator and so fun to work out with! The women in the dvd’s are REAL. They have weight struggles, they have kids, and they have amazing bodies and outlooks on life. I had NEVER stuck with a workout program or been excited to do a workout day after day. But, TJ changed my life. It changed my attitude. It’s such a fun, dancey, party workout that I couldn’t help but love it and I sweat like I’d never sweat before! TJ also had so many different workouts to choose from. I started out doing just the 20 minute and AbJam for the first month and still lost 10-15 lbs. Then I revved it up with CP3 and the Live workouts and shed even more weight. It is such an amazing program with tons of variety. Over the years, while maintaining my weight I have had great success with Chalean Extreme and am currently killing it with TurboFIre! Talk about sweating! These programs are amazing and I can’t get enough!
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?The results! TurboJam and the other Chalene Johnson programs WORK. I lost 40 lbs doing TurboJam and eating a healthy diet. I’ve kept the weight off for 4 years through TJ, TurboFire and Chalean Extreme. That is stunning to me! I couldn’t have done it without such an amazing program and fantastic motivator. I felt like I was IN the class with those people. I felt like I knew them, and it made me want to class. It made me push harder than I ever thought I could. It made me sweat and burn and dig deep and that’s what gets results! I am a different person than I was 4 years ago because of these awesome programs.
Tell us about the greatest challenge you faced. How did you overcome that challenge?The greatest challenges I’ve faced all have to do with motherhood. I got pregnant with my 3rd daughter just 5 months after reaching my goal. With my other pregnancies I ate terribly and was completely inactive. Not this time! My third pregnancy was amazing. With my dr’s consent I continued TurboJam and stayed active thanks to the confidence and energy I had gained from the months of training I had just completed. I gained a healthy ammount of weight and was able to burn it off after I gave birth to my daughter. I lost the weight doing TurbJam and TurboFire and have kept it off. Any time you have a family you have to prioritize your fitness. If you don’t MAKE time for it, you will never FIND time for it. I work out every night after my kids go to bed. It’s my time for ME. I am better wife and mother because of it. I constantly set new goals and fire through them, but maintaing and staying in shape once I reached my goal weight was a challenge that I’m SO proud to have conquered.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody® program. What achievements are you proud of?OH my! My results were fantastic. I went from 168lbs to 127 from April 2008-Sept2008 and have maintained since then. The weight loss was a miracle for me. I had begun to think I was going to be out of shape and unhealthy for the rest of my life. I dropped my dress size from 14-4! It still shocks me and I still have a hard time buying small shirts even after all of this time. I have toned arms and legs and my stomach is better than I could have hoped! Probably my favorite result though, is my change in attitude and who I am. I LOVE FITNESS NOW. I’m not scared of it. I tell others about the Beachbody programs and have inspired MANY of my friends and family to get in shape and try Beachbody workouts. I recently became a Beachbody coach and am so excited to officially get my friends involved in Beachbody! That’s something I never would have done before. I’m so much more outgoing that I was before. I am no longer intimidated by in shape people. I am one of them. It feels amazing!

Shakeology Power Balls- Chocolate Craving Killer

 No Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Shakeology Balls

Ingredients: 

8 tablespoons PB2, (low fat, high protein powdered peanut butter)

3 tablespoons Natural Peanut Butter

½ cup Shakeology

3 tablespoons raw honey

½ cup quick oats

Directions:

Mix PB2 with water until it is a paste like consistency. Mix all ingredients, including PB2 mixture together in a mixing bowl. It may take some time to blend all of the ingredients together. If it’s to sticky, sprinkle in additional protein powder so that it’s a pretty dry/crumbly texture.

Next, roll mixture into small individual balls and place on a wax sheet. Makes about 12 balls, 1 oz each. Put them in the freezer until firm.

(These taste even better when made with 6 tbsp of PB2 and ½ cup of natural peanut butter, but the calories and fat are higher. If you find the recipe above is too chalky tasting, add the extra peanut butter and do a few more jumping jacks.

PB2 is great for baking and protein shakes. 1.5 grams of fat, no additives…they just strip out the fat.

I always keep these in the freezer around that time of the month when I need a dreamy little snack to kill that chocolate craving!

15 Tips to help you stay on track to Reach YOUR MOMENT

Take your training to the next level – whether that means upping your game by signing up for an extreme challenge or just getting off the couch and into your workout shoes for the first time. Eat less, exercise more.That’s the simple solution to anyone’s weight loss questions. But if it was that easy, more people would be in great shape. Turns out, some of your other behaviors play a big role in fat loss. Try these 15 tips—including several surprises—to fire up your metabolism speed up your lean body transformation.

1. Have a Plan

The old saying goes: “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” Have a realistic goal and set specific targets for your week to reach that goal, says Emma-Leigh Synnott, M.B.B.S, an exercise, nutrition, and metabolism specialist. However, make sure that you don’t end up being too strict with yourself. Life is about more than your diet. So be sure to find that balance between reaching your goal, and enjoying the moment too.

2. Sleep More

Sleep does more than help your body recover from a long day — it actually helps you fight fat. In fact, researchers at the University of Chicago reported that sleeping less than 7 to 8 hours can increase your appetite (forcing you to overeat), slow your metabolism (causing you to burn fewer calories) and make the body retain more abdominal fat. Need another reason to sleep more? Lack of shut-eye is also associated with bad workouts. Do yourself a favor and get some rest. Your body will thank you.

 

3. Eat Less More Often

Eating 5-6 small meals a day will speed up your metabolism and teach you how to eat in portion. Studies have said several things but when you eat smaller meals throughout the day (clean, raw, and healthy), you will rev your metabolism up and it will help you lose weight!

4. Know How Much You Are Eating

Part one of the energy equation is to simply restrict your fuel intake. But unfortunately, most people do very badly with this. Research has shown that most people grossly underestimate how much they are eating, sometimes by up to 50 percent! There are a number of ways you can track what you are eating, such as using MyPlate through livestrong.com or Myfitnesspal,com, but whatever system you use the key is consistency and accuracy.

5. Move More (LOTS more!)

This is, essentially, the second half of the equation – the calories-out side.Unfortunately, most people struggle with this process. In today’s society we are largely sedentary: We travel in cars, we work in front of computers all day and we relax in front of the television. Add incidental exercise (like talking the stairs or tapping your foot) in addition to formal activity (such as playing sports, lifting weights, running, a Beachbody Program) to see the greatest benefits

6. Remove Liquid Calories

You want the truth: 65 percent of Americans drink beverages that are heavy in calories. Not only are these drinks less likely to keep you full, thus leaving you hungry, they are oftentimes loaded with sugar. Yes this means your crystal light, juices, alcohol, pop, sweetened tea, and anything with artificial sweeteners in it!

7. Plan a Cheat Meal

This will help your body see that you are not depriving it from what it is use to and you can splurge, will losing weight!- it is ONE MEAL, not a WHOLE DAY!

8. Make Yourself Accountable

Surround yourself with tools to help you with your journey. Tell your friends. Tell your family. Join my support group or Challenge group! Let people know your goals and ask for their support in helping you achieving them. The more supported you are, the better.

9. Practice Carb Swapping

Carb swapping is is one of the easiest (and fastest) ways to jump-start weight loss. Replace foods like pasta, rice and bread with fruits and vegetables. The fruits and vegetables have fewer calories and carbohydrates than their processed counterparts. That means you can eat more total food without adding weight.

 

10. Eat More Fat

Did you know that the Institute of Medicine recommends that a diet be made up of 25 to 35 percent fat? Turns out, high-fat foods like nuts, avocados and healthy oils can help you lose fat faster than other diet approaches. Just make sure you figure out how much fat you need in your diet to prevent yourself from overeating. And, as always, avoid the trans fats. They’re still not healthy.

11. Eat More Protein

Protein helps you maintain lean body mass (muscle, not fat), and increase the thermic effect of your diet. That is, protein requires more energy for your body to process than carbohydrates or fat. This can subtly contribute to the calories-out side of the energy equation. As a bonus, eating protein keeps you fuller longer, and researchers have shown that it can reduce how much you eat per day by hundreds of calories.

12. DRINK MORE WATER: Become a Heavy Drinker

No we’re not talking about alcohol. While there’s nothing magical about water, the process of consuming lots of liquid can trick you into feeling less hungry. What’s more, when you’re dehydrated you burn 2 percent fewer calories per day, says University of Utah researchers. So if you struggle to control your appetite, drink up before your meal. Then drink some more. You’ll be more likely to fight off fat. You should be drinking 50% of your weight in ounces!

13. Drink Shakeology

Your diet should primarily consist of whole-food sources like meats, veggies, fruits and nuts. However, research published in the Journal of Nutrition found those who consume whey-protein shakes lost almost twice as much fat as those who didn’t have the shakes. Magic? Hardly. “Ok friends! It’s been 90 days and I have my results from the challenge group I participated in. I ate clean, drank shakeology every day, and worked out 6 days a week. I know the picture isn’t of my front, but I think this gives the best idea of my transformation. I used to be a yo-yo dieter. I never ever ate healthy. A common food source in Africa, grain amaranth is valued for its ability to improve nutrition while supporting rural development and sustainable farming. In Africa, this vegetable is even recommended by doctors for people who have low red blood cell counts. Other health benefits of amaranth include:

1. Vitamins

Amaranth is highly vitamin-rich and is a good source of vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin K, vitamin C, folate and riboflavin.

2. Minerals

Amaranth includes numerous minerals such as calcium, potassium, iron, copper, magnesium, phosphorus and especially manganese.

3. Protein

Amaranth contains large amounts of protein, up to 30% more than wheat flour, rice and oats. The protein contained in amaranth is also unusually complete when compared to other plant sources, containing a complete set of amino acids. Therefore, different sources to obtain the daily recommended dose of protein is not needed. Also, amaranth lacks gluten, which is a problematic protein contained in many true grains.

4. Dietary Fiber and Amino Acids

5. Palatability

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body? *I was always small in high school, that’s what everyone says right? I would look at pictures of the person I use to be and make excuses of why I couldn’t be that girl anymore. I had kids, I was busy, I couldn’t workout like I use to.Well, this was getting me no where and no matter what excuses I made for myself, it didn’t make me like the girl I saw in the mirror anymore then the day before. I felt uncomfortable in every thing I wore, and I hated going shopping. What had happen to the girl that LOVED shopping? What happen to my love for eating good, healthy food? Over the years I slowly had put on weight and was just tired of not feeling good.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey? *Working out and eating healthy has always been something I care about, it just wasn’t always at the top of my priority list.Two years ago my mother passed away at the age of 56, and it was at that moment that I decided to change my life, and my families. I realized I had let myself become someone I didn’t know.I decided NO more excuses, and I owed it to myself and my husband and kids to be around for them. Not only did I want to feel healthy, I wanted to get my confidence back. I didn’t feel good physically which of course was my reason for not working out. My health and my families health became my number one priority! I decided if we felt good, we could enjoy life everyday together with no excuses.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody® help you overcome that challenge? *My greatest challenge was just STARTING! I would say ok, this week I’m gonna start. I think it was such a challenge to just start because I was afraid of failing. If I didn’t try I couldn’t fail. I was letting everything else in my life come before my health. Beachbody helped me with staying accountable! I didn’t have to be afraid because I wasn’t the only one who had these struggles. We all have personal struggles in our life and once I saw that other people struggled to, but made it to the other side, my competitive nature kicked in and that was all I needed! Clean Eating Salad: Perfect for Holiday Parties

Edemame, Tomato, and Feta Salad with Fresh Basil

I was looking for a Clean Appetizer for my Son’s Birthday Party and My Friend Melanie Mitro said Try the Edemame Salad… DID IT AND YUMMY!!! It was so good and everyone loved it!!! I would add more garlic or red wine for taste, or LESS olive oil =)

 

This salad was bursting with flavor and it was gorgeous!!!

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp olive oil

  • 2 tbsp red wine vinegar, or to taste

  • 1 tbsp water

  • 1 clove of garlic, minced

  • 3/4 tsp table salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 1 pound edamame (shelled) cooked

  • 10 medium plum tomatoes seeded and chopped

  • 1/2 cup basil, fresh, cut into ribbons

  • 1 small uncooked red onion finely sliced

  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese

Instructions:
To make dressing, in a small bowl, combine oil, vinegar, water, garlic, salt and pepper, set aside.
In a large serving bowl, combine edamame, tomatoes, basil and onion; toss with dressing and sprinkle with cheese.  Yields about 1 cup per serving.

Eat Small Meals, Often to stay Lean

Consistent: 5-6x a day eating schedule

To succeed it is VERY important to have a consistent schedule! Consistency will actually give you a profound sense of control over the world… It will also assure you two things :

  • 1. You won’t get OVER-HUNGRY, and thus overeat at the next meal
  • 2. You will encourage an increase in your metabolism (BURNING THE FAT!!!)

 

Schedule:

Breakfast: (within an hour of waking) 7am

Snack* (SMALL) -2-3 hours after breakfast 9-10a

Lunch: 12-1p (2-3 hours after snack)

Pay Attention to EVERYTHING you eat: Fresh Veggies, Lean Meats, and foods lower in fat and higher in fiber are the basis of nutrition

Portions and The Right Foods: Every Meal should be conservative in portion sizes and have fairly even ratios :Protein 30%, Carbs 40%, and Fat 30%

–       Use Fresh Veggies and fruits to replace processed foods and you will lose weight!

–       Skinless white meat in BETTER than red meat

–       Egg Whites have LESS fat than whole eggs

–       When looking at a plate full of fat or carbs (pizza or pasta) eat half f your normal serving. Do not overeat!

–       Choose Low- density, high-fiber foods when possible.

Why I invested into MY FUTURE….

 

I have always been the “big boned” “skinny fat” girl that played athletics all her life but had to work to stay smaller (size 6 was my smallest) until I went to college and did nothing and started taking diet pills and became anorexic and bulimic (very disappointed in myself for getting there but it happened) and I can admit now that it was a horrible way to try to be skinny! So after college I got pregnant at 20 with my daughter and gained 76lbs and weighted in at 200lbs the day I delivered her… I went to the gym and got down to 138 in 7months and then found out I was pregnant with my son… Got back to 200lbs the day I delivered him as well…But the weight would not come off and so one night I saw the informercial for P90X and I ordered it- I said I have tried everything else why not try this, so many people are finding success… So I did it for 4 weeks and quit a year later and 5lbs gone a friend messaged me and said she became a coach and was wondering if I wanted to try shakeology– I pondered for a month or so and said you know what I have P90X and I see people are losing weight with this shake I’m going to try it, I was so depressed with what I saw in the mirror, who I was and I was completely uncomfortable in my own skin I could not believe I let myself go and did not join an accountablity group sooner- I went all in on accountability and joined as a coach to stay motivated… We started a challenge group and I did the full 90 days and lost 20lbs and went from a size 8/10 to a 4 and then followed that by Insanity and lost another pant size! Since than I have completed P90X2, ChaLEAN Extreme, Insanity Asylum, started doing Tai Cheng (because I have a neck injury and was told not to do high intensity but got cleared) so I am starting round 2 of ChaLEAN Extreme and could NOT be happier.. In 4 days I have lost 3.5lbs and feel AMAZING, so much energy and momentum to PUSH HARDER!!!  I have gained 10lbs of muscle in the past year, after Insanity and I am currently 136lbs and muscle and can say I’m pretty confident in who I am today!!!

 

So before I started actually “coaching” I was an Office Manager for my dad and then a Full Time Substitute Teacher, as you may know teachers and office managers do not make a WONDERFUL pay, BUT I was getting by, I paid my bills; student loans (after having to defer them for hardship), gas to get to and from work, groceries so my family could eat, and try to make the minimum payment on my credit cards (racked up debt while in college and not having a job them a baby that needed cared for).. YES my husband is in the picture and has a FT job but he was paying for the mortgage and house bills amongst health insurance, car insurance, house insurance… EVERYTHING ELSE! Is Shakeology a scam?  I have seen this question asked many times so I think it is only fair to share with you my thoughts about Shakeology along with the reasons I love it so much.  A fellow Teammate, Scottie Hobbs, had outlined this and I figured I would touch on it as well, because I think it is important and needs to be shared =) I started using Shakeology to replace one meal a day as I began my journey in April of 2011 and to be honest I was hesitant about it because of the cost, because I thought there are so many other things out there that I can get cheaper, but I had never tried a meal placement shake- so I didn’t know what to look for in the shake that was going to benefit me.  WELL, This IS NOT LIKE ANY OTHER SHAKE OUT THERE BECAUSE Shakeology IS NOT comparable to anything else!!!!  I decided I would give it a shot because it has a 30 Day Bottom of the Bag Guarentee and because my coach Kati Heifner believe in it so much and I believed in her and knew she wouldn’t stare me wrong.  I decided that if I was going to do P90X and actually commit this time, I would commit 100% so I could get the BEST RESULTS!!!

There are many protein shakes and meal replacements that are less expensive than Shakeology. But comparisons based on the simple “protein shake” or even “health shake” are usually off the mark and don’t stack up to Shakeology.

Shakeology was designed for people who want more than protein, and for people who want the health benefits being represented by the ingredients on the label. To really know whether a product measures up to Shakeology, you need to keep some things in mind:

How much is enough?

We are proud of Shakeology’s 70+ ingredients. Other shakes will trumpet the number of ingredients they have too. But are the ingredients they are counting actually good for you? Are there any artificial flavors or colors listed in those ingredients? Not in Shakeology!

Are they derived from whole-food sources? They are in Shakeology! Too often the “magic ingredient” has been isolated from the enzymes and phytonutrients that actually make the ingredient useful when consumed.

And does the competition formulate for the synergistic benefits between the ingredients, or just slap together whatever is hot in the media? Shakeology was specially formulated for the collection of ingredients to work together like a symphony; this combination is so effective, some people report dramatic benefits within the first week. Other supplements point to one or two individual ingredients and build a “story” around their superfood attributes.

Protein

Pay attention to a product’s protein source or blend. Protein sources like whey protein hydrolysate have been shown to trigger a much higher insulin response in the body. That’s not an outcome we would tolerate in Shakeology.

Our protein source is whey protein isolate, which is more than 90 percent pure protein. Plus, Shakeology is loaded with digestive enzymes and lactase—that’s the enzyme that breaks down lactose and is found in over-the-counter products like Lactaid®. Don’t confuse whey protein concentrate with isolate. Whey protein concentrate is the least pure form of whey protein made. The benefit of isolate versus concentrate is that the fat has been removed to achieve isolate. The fat in whey protein is what carries toxins consumed by the animal. That’s the reason Shakeology can be used by so many people who are lactose-intolerant—because those toxins have been removed through the isolate process.

For our vegan formulation, we use sprouted brown rice protein, not soy. Does the competition use ANY soy in their formulation? Soy protein contains estrogen, mimicking compounds that can interfere with your hormones. On top of that, most of the soy in the marketplace is GMO (genetically modified). These are two important reasons why we don’t use soy in Shakeology.

Glycemic index tested . . .

In terms of sugar, many protein shakes contain 1 gram of sugar or less. This is because they are using artificial chemical sweeteners. (Check the label for sucralose, aspartame, or sugar alcohols.) Shakeology’s small amounts of sugar comes from natural sources and whole superfoods like coconut flower nectar and luo han guo, which are easily processed by the body and, in fact, have been tested and certified by an independent lab to have a low glycemic index of 24—that’s lower than most fruits! (An apple is 36, and an orange is 43.)

Other shakes don’t cost as much as Shakeology at first glance, but they also don’t contain the full profile of the recommended daily allowance (RDA) for some vitamins and minerals, or whole-food sources of antioxidants, phytonutrients, adaptogen herbs, prebiotics, probiotics, or digestive enzymes. We’ve seen competitors make you buy a separate vitamin pack for $150 per month! Once you add it up, this is hardly a “good deal,” and it’s usually hardly even a good product.

One Year Anniversary: The Commitment to a NEW LIFE!

One Year Ago today I COMMITTED to P90X and Shakeology! I was MISERABLE with who I was, what I saw in the mirror, and everyone around me! I was DEPRESSED, Angry, and a MEAN PERSON! I was in a dark hole of my life and it was not fair to the ones around me, the people that mattered the most, my family, husband, and most of all MY CHILDREN!  Because I was so miserable with myself I took it out on EVERYONE around me, everything and anything someone around me did was wrong or bothered me! I would fight with my husband for NO reason, yell at my kids for BEING KIDS, and argue with my parents and family over something STUPID!

This past year has been a LIFE CHANGER!!! I have met some AMAZING people who all care about the same thing- Health and Fitness! I started my journey with P90X and saw awesome results and then decided to do Insanity (i didn’t lose a pound but lost inches)! I saw so much support throughout our team that no matter if I had a slip up or a down day, which I had MANY, they were all still there to push me back up and help me through the journey! I say a journey because its not something that happens over night! Yes I was excited about what was to come, but it took work to change my attitude! I would be negative and still said mean things until I started seeing myself change! This was a physical and mental journey, I just did not know yet! I honestly believe that you SUCCEED when you have SUPPORT and when you surround yourself with LIKE-MINDED people!!!

This is when I started feeling COMFORTABLE in my skin! I was helping others reach their fitness goals and started Inspiring my family! This was a huge STEP in my journey! To do it for yourself or your family is one thing, but when you INSPIRE others to do the same thing it makes ALL of the STRUGGLES worth it! I have learnt some valuable lessons from different foods, the body equation, to what really matters and how staying consistent it what make the difference!

My-Nikki Kuban Minton’s P90X2 Transformation!

 

 

 

I started P90X2 on January 1, 2012- I wanted to kick off the New Year with a BANG!!!! Well I just did that with P90X2! IT IS A CRAZY INTENSE WORKOUT!!! BUT I LOVE A CHALLENGE!!!! It is a 90 day program with 3 phases, you can do each phase as you feel necessary! I did Phase 1 for 3 weeks, Phase 2 for 6 weeks, and Phase 3 for 3 weeks! When I got to week 3 of phase 3 I was starting to get discouraged- because I did not feel I was getting the best results, but then took pictures and saw I had ABS!!!!! So I really think it was the Repetition of P.A.P Upper and P.A.P Lower and I was getting BORED =( I like variety in my workout weeks!!!

 

 

Food: My diet during P90X2 did not change much at all!!! I would Eat the same thing all week and just switch the days around! Shakeology was mystaple go to Nutrition! CONVENIENT, YUMMY, and FULL OF NUTRIENTS AND VITAMINS I NEED!!!!

I lost 7 lbs in this transformation- Which I was just looking to tone! But I will now work on toning and staying at my current weight 130!

My Husband-Chris Minton’s Beachbody Journey

My Husband started with Insanity in July 2011 after watching me do a round of P90X and really BELIEVING the programs worked! He started with Insanity and started fresh, cut pop completely out of his diet and in month 1-30 days- he dropped 30lbs! He did not follow any other diet- he still ate how he wanted, just cut pop out! Then month 2 he started to watch what he was eating and limited the pizza and hoagies, fried food, and fast food. He started  to tone on top of losing weight!

 

After Insanity we did a P90X/ Insanity Hybrid while we waited for P90X-2, January 1st was our start date! While doing the hybrid, Chris lost another 10 lbs! And REALLY got serious about he was eating! He started drinking shakeology daily, a salad while at work, and a lean meat meat with Veggies at home! We would only have a starch or carb once or twice a week, and always had fruits and veggies! The hardest part was the holidays and going to houses that did not have such healthy selections- but we made it through the holidays and his results are here to show…

 

Once the holidays were over and our P90X-2 had arrived- we were ready to start!!!!! P90X-2 was a way to help us get stronger!!! It helped with our performance and helped us show ourselves we were stronger than we thought! Eating had stayed pretty clean with 1 cheat meal a week- it was our dinner out night! My husband works pretty crazy hours so we only had 1 evening as a family so we would take the kids our to a play house, bowling, or the park and get dinner! So even with his crazy work hours, he managed to wake up at 5-5:30am every day to get his workout in before work! If you would have asked him in July 2011 if he would ever wake up early to get a workout in- he would have called you crazy! Well I can say he is CRAZY about his health and fitness now, so if it means wake up at 4:30a because he works at 7a he will do it, or workout at 12midnight and wake up at 5:30a he would do it! I AM SOOOO PROUD OF HIM!!!!!!

 

This is not the final product- he is on to Insanity Asylum/ P90X hybrid because he wants to bulk up instead of losing anymore weight!

I am sooo proud of how far he has come from Day 1- not only Physically, but MENTALLY! He now realizes how important it is to be healthy and eat the right things- 1 to show our kids the importance of being health but also 2 to be able to do his job 100% and not get out ran but someone!
