What Stephanie M. won:
Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?I started struggling with my weight in my 20’s, and after two pregnancies it spiraled out of control. I was ashamed of how I looked, but too tired to do anything about it. I went back to work full time after the birth of my second son in 2008, and was the heaviest I’ve ever been – at 227 lbs on a 5’7 frame. My youngest son did not sleep well through the night, so I was functioning on only 2-3 hours of sleep while working 45 hours a week. I was exhausted, emotionally and physically. I was depressed and too tired to care, but deep down I did care. A lot. I turned to food to help me cope, and before I knew it I was binging on cookies and cake to help numb the pain.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?I was sitting on my kitchen floor at 2am eating a cupcake, as I had just gotten the baby to sleep again. That was my reward to myself. I ate it in 2 bites, and as I stared at the empty wrapper, I started to cry. What was I doing to myself? My kids deserved a healthy mom. Why would I want to deprive them of that? I couldn’t even chase after my oldest son in the back yard. I knew then that I needed to change, for them and for me.
Why did you choose the particular program?Muscle burns fat! When I heard that phrase from the program, I was intrigued. I was always scared to lift weights, because I didn’t want to bulk up. I liked Chalene’s philosophy, and with sucess from Turbo Jam and Turbo Fire, I knew I couldn’t go wrong.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?The sense of empowerment that I feel every time I lift those weights. I love how Chalene takes the time to teach you the proper form. Form is key and makes all the difference!
Tell us about the greatest challenge you faced. How did you overcome that challenge?I was losing weight and feeling great, then this past February my family received news that would forever change our lives. My 2 year old nephew was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer. I felt that same pain coming back, and the numbness was trying to set in. I didn’t want to exercise or eat right. I kept thinking “why should I? What does it matter?” We went to see him the night he was diagnosed. He was sitting up in bed with the brightest smile, pushing his truck. My heart was breaking and tears were streaming down my face, but he was able to smile and be happy.Given a survival rate of 25%, St. Jude’s accepted him with open arms. He is in his 7 month of treatment there, and after the successful removal of the tumor, all of his scans have come back clear! My nephew is facing a challenge that no one should ever have to face. He helped me gain my perspective & find my inner strength again.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody® program. What achievements are you proud of?At 31 years old, I am in the best shape of my life. Habits of HOW and WHAT we eat….

Evolution and Diet: We haven’t changed that much…

The human body has changed very little in the past 100,000 years. Genetically, we have not changed in millions of years, BUT our dietary habits have! The ability to choose what and when we eat has changed dramatically! Today we are in a drive thru thinking about “super sizing” a meal and tomorrow we will dramatically cut our calories and go on a “diet” The body senses the reduction and fires a message to the metabolism and says, “We are going to be starved so we need to store everything and cannot put off energy- we have to store it!” (Your body holds the fat to burn at a later date) This is called “STARVATION MODE”


To effectively have a healthy weight loss of stored fat, and to have a long term effect, you want to avoid sending the body a message to “reset” your metabolism to conserve fuel. Creating a calorie deficit is KEY, but remember to never go under 1,200 calories a day… keep the balance smooth. If you are not eating enough and not losing- add a few hundred calories and you may see the fat burning! Never stop the habit of portion control and regular exercise- you will be lean and forget the battle with the bulge =)

Eat Small Meals, Often to stay Lean

Consistent: 5-6x a day eating schedule

To succeed it is VERY important to have a consistent schedule! Consistency will actually give you a profound sense of control over the world… It will also assure you two things :

  • 1. You won’t get OVER-HUNGRY, and thus overeat at the next meal
  • 2. You will encourage an increase in your metabolism (BURNING THE FAT!!!)



Breakfast: (within an hour of waking) 7am

Snack* (SMALL) -2-3 hours after breakfast 9-10a

Lunch: 12-1p (2-3 hours after snack)

Snack* (SMALL- fruit, meal replacement bar, almonds) 3-4p

Dinner: finished at least 3 hours BEFORE bed 7-8p

Snack* (if schedule is different and you are hungry and it is 3 hours before bed, or try herbal tea)

***MOST IMPORTANT aspect of this schedule is that YOU DO EAT BREAKFAST and STOP EATING 3 hours BEFORE BED! You may be hungry before bed, but your body will be burning fat for that 8 hours =) this is considered “fasting mode”- meaning you are not at the midst of digesting a meal- your body will access stored fat for energy!

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?From as far back as I can remember, I have been obese. I always saw it as something that just was part of me, but I always hated it. I was lazy – I didn’t really know how or want to put forth any effort to change that. As a kid, my mother would find wrappers from whole packages of lunchmeat or hot dogs under my bed that I had hidden after late night eating. In my early 20’s, my schedule as a Restaurant Manager never allowed me to eat during the day, so when I came home at night I would combine all three meals in to one. If I couldn’t sleep or was bored late at night, I would eat. I always hated myself for my weight, but found myself compensating by always being the first to make a joke about my weight in fear that someone else might. I became comfortable always being the “fat guy” in the family… or anywhere for that matter.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?The first realization that I needed to do something was when I was put on blood pressure medicine at age 25. The doctor also told me that I needed to lose 30lbs in 30 days. I thought that was impossible to do. And after the 30 days, I had not lost anything. I was wearing 56” pants, 5X shirts & had to go to the scrap yard to weigh myself b/c I was over 400lbs. I couldn’t even reach to clip my own toe nails – my wife had to do that for me. I also didn’t think that my wife & I would be able to have kids b/c of my size. My coach is also my insurance agent so when I’d come by his office, he’d encourage me to make a change. He’d been doing Beachbody programs for 3 years. We became friends and he took me to Columbus, OH to a Beachbody meeting & I met Tommy Mygrant and Craig Holiday. They both encouraged me that I could do this and get the results I wanted. I had never really had that support before. I was excited to see if I could do this!
Why did you choose the particular program?I started with Power90 because by now, I had heard & met so many success stories. I remember that first day sitting on my couch looking at the disc, thinking, “I am going to do this today”. So I did and BARELY made it through. But I felt accomplished and called Jeff who said, “Great! Now continue to do it every day for the next thirty days.” So after 30 days I’d lost 45lbs. By the end of 90 days I’d lost over 70lbs. I gradually progressed to P90X which was a whole other world. While I couldn’t do everything or finish the workouts & HAD to modify alot, I thrived on the challenges in P90X – and still do!
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?I loved that in every P90X workout, there were modifications that I could do. Tony’s personality also made the workouts much more enjoyable. I could see results right away, and after finishing 90 days, it was clear that this was a program that actually worked! And it wasn’t just about the workouts; there were so many tools like the fitness guide & meal plans that helped me along the way. I loved Tony’s phrase, “do your best and forget the rest”, and that is now my motto for everything I do.
Tell us about the greatest challenge you faced. How did you overcome that challenge?I would say the greatest challenge was just sticking with the program and not giving up. There were so many days that I just thought, “can I really do this?”. My wife was very supportive, but most of my own family wasn’t, and that added more stress on top of an already challenging situation. Scheduling was a big challenge b/c not only was I working full time 3rd shift, I was also having to take care of my dying mother-in-law. Twelve hour days at the cancer center for treatments took a lot out of me. I overcame it all by sticking with my original decision that I HAD to make a change – period.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody® program. What achievements are you proud of?I HIT THE 200LB WEIGHT LOSS MARK THIS MONTH!!! I am healthy for the first time in my life! Losing 200 lbs in 13 months is not an easy task, but I did it and it has to be one of the most amazing feelings I have ever felt before! I’m off all meds now! I now have definition in my arms that I have never had before. I can do push-ups, pull-ups, and everything I never thought I could before! I’m now doing P90X & INSANITY hybrids. I easily completed the Warrior Dash this month as well – a 5k with 12 obstacles solely from doing Beachbody programs. I now have lots of folks asking ME for fitness advice – imagine that! I’ve constantly got friends from high school who are amazed at my results. Remember when I said that my wife & I could not have a baby due to my weight? Well, I am proud to say that due to my weight loss, my wife is now 2 ½ months pregnant! What an achievement from using my Beachbody program!

How to get going when you are just starting out…

QUICK START aka “Ready, Fire… Aim!”

  1. Ease into your new Exercise Routine to get familiar with the moves 
  2. To Start your workout program you need:
    1. Lab Top or DVD Player, electricity (ha obvious right!?!)
    2. Resistance (dumbbells or Bands)
    3. Enjoy space to jump around (push up/ jumping jacks are how I measure- if you can do these you have enough room!)
    4. Water and Towel
    5. Supplements (E&E, R&R, Shakeology and others if you desire)
  3. Scheduling Workouts: Try to be consistent with the time and place you workout, HABIT IS VERY HELPFUL!
  4. IMPORTANT: Take it easy with a New Program. For at least the first week (maybe even two), you should leave some effort behind until you understand the moves and what your body can handle! You will get too sore to work out everyday if you don’t introduce new program to your body GRADUALLY!
  5. Take “before”/ “GOODBYE” photo: Yes, take these photos and save them for yourself- you never want to look like this again right?- This is where you started! Make note of day “1” and track progress
  6. Push “Play”: Do your routine and you’re done for the day! You’re on your way to a body transformation you won’t believe.

Why I invested into MY FUTURE….


I have always been the “big boned” “skinny fat” girl that played athletics all her life but had to work to stay smaller (size 6 was my smallest) until I went to college and did nothing and started taking diet pills and became anorexic and bulimic (very disappointed in myself for getting there but it happened) and I can admit now that it was a horrible way to try to be skinny! So after college I got pregnant at 20 with my daughter and gained 76lbs and weighted in at 200lbs the day I delivered her… I went to the gym and got down to 138 in 7months and then found out I was pregnant with my son… Got back to 200lbs the day I delivered him as well…But the weight would not come off and so one night I saw the informercial for P90X and I ordered it- I said I have tried everything else why not try this, so many people are finding success… So I did it for 4 weeks and quit a year later and 5lbs gone a friend messaged me and said she became a coach and was wondering if I wanted to try shakeology– I pondered for a month or so and said you know what I have P90X and I see people are losing weight with this shake I’m going to try it, I was so depressed with what I saw in the mirror, who I was and I was completely uncomfortable in my own skin I could not believe I let myself go and did not join an accountablity group sooner- I went all in on accountability and joined as a coach to stay motivated… We started a challenge group and I did the full 90 days and lost 20lbs and went from a size 8/10 to a 4 and then followed that by Insanity and lost another pant size! Since than I have completed P90X2, ChaLEAN Extreme, Insanity Asylum, started doing Tai Cheng (because I have a neck injury and was told not to do high intensity but got cleared) so I am starting round 2 of ChaLEAN Extreme and could NOT be happier.. In 4 days I have lost 3.5lbs and feel AMAZING, so much energy and momentum to PUSH HARDER!!!  I have gained 10lbs of muscle in the past year, after Insanity and I am currently 136lbs and muscle and can say I’m pretty confident in who I am today!!!


So before I started actually “coaching” I was an Office Manager for my dad and then a Full Time Substitute Teacher, as you may know teachers and office managers do not make a WONDERFUL pay, BUT I was getting by, I paid my bills; student loans (after having to defer them for hardship), gas to get to and from work, groceries so my family could eat, and try to make the minimum payment on my credit cards (racked up debt while in college and not having a job them a baby that needed cared for).. YES my husband is in the picture and has a FT job but he was paying for the mortgage and house bills amongst health insurance, car insurance, house insurance… EVERYTHING ELSE! Well it was a struggle because I was putting my Shakeology and Business Fee of 15.95 on a credit card so that I would stay active, I had my husband become a coach to rank advance (money expenses paid out) and I was putting our financial situation at jeopardy… Finally 8 months after I became a Coach I was seeing a return, people were trusting in me and knowing that my transformation changed my life that I could help them change theirs! now 17 months after signing up I am close to another rank advancement and making DOUBLE what I would have being a teacher in the public schools. I am hoping that April 2016 (5 years as a coach) that my husband will be able to retire and be a stay at home dad- take and pick the kids up from school, take them to practice, coach them, and NEVER miss any milestones!!!! I AM SO PASSIONATE IN THIS JOB IT IS UNREAL!!!! I want to help so many others become FINANCIALLY FREE, if you can relate in any way CONTACT ME!!!


Why do YOU workout?!?

This question is a simple one, but has many responses and opinions…. When you are working out you: keep your head up, stay aligned in the feet and hips, tuck the ribs, bend the knees, BREATH. But I have been thinking about this question lately because I am currently unable to workout: “Why do you workout?” is a loaded one. Often, people begin workout routines because they want to lose weight, or they feel guilty for eating a high calorie meal, or they have an upcoming event that they want to lose weight for, or they simply have an ongoing goal to look better. But the benefits of exercise run so much deeper than these reasons.


Working out gives me energy, puts my in a better mood, and makes my body feel fresh! I feel there is a mental connection to being physically active. Through exercise, I have gotten stronger, more confident in my physical capabilities, more serious about my muscle and skeletal health, and I look toward a future of flexibility and strength in my older age. With going to the Chiropractor this has really made me see how working out with proper form makes your whole body work they way it was designed! If your alignment is off, then you are off. I used to agonize over a missed workout, because I thought that taking a day or two off for some rest meant I was lazy. Now I realize that rest is extremely important and valuable to both our physical and mental states. Your relationship with exercise, just like your relationship with food, is an important place to explore your relationship with yourself. Your muscles grow when they are at rest, so TAKE YOUR REST DAYS SERIOUSLY!

I treat working out in like a sports team practicing, because each week I build on my skills and challenge myself a little more. And even if I take a break or don’t do as many reps as my last workout, I push harder the next time until I master it. And that’s what working out means to me: To challenge my body, my mind, and my confidence. It’s all about how YOU make the workout control you… you can CONQUER ANYTHING you PUT YOUR MIND TO! A Healthy you is a HAPPY you!

What to do when you take time off of P90X, Insanity, or any other Beachbody Program?

So you get sick or busy or life gets ahold of you an you just need a day or two to rest… THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US ALL!!! What do we do after we are ready to come back??? Do we start the week over, do we start the program from Day 1, do we double up on our missed workouts… NO YOU START WHERE YOU LEFT OFF!!! It is ok that your program goes 91 days, 65 days, or 39 days! WE ARE NOT PERFECT and life may get in the way! We all get sick and we all have days where we barely have time to go to the bathroom… IT IS OK to take a day to rest!

When you are sick or have a pounding headache and try to workout through the pain… You are only going to injure yourself more… your immune system is not 100% and is telling you you need to slow down… SO LISTEN! When you workout through illnesses or pain your body will never recover and you are only going to get sicker or injure yourself worse!



You never want to take the chances with any cold or injury so make sure you consult a doctor before going back to your workout regime! Also anytime you are sick you should check to see what your doctors says or feels you should do! I personally thought I just had a neck pain and it turns out I have Neck subluxation and cannot workout intensely for the next 12 weeks.. bummer YES, but if I would have not gone to the doctor, I would have never known that I would be off for that long! SO CHECK WITH A PROFESSIONAL!


Once you are cleared to workout, PICK UP WHERE YOU LEFT OFF!!! Each Beachbody Program is designed the way it is for the BEST possible results! So if you take too much time off, yes restart it! This is just my advice and recommendations!!! I hope this helps you in the future =)

One Year Anniversary: The Commitment to a NEW LIFE!

One Year Ago today I COMMITTED to P90X and Shakeology! I was MISERABLE with who I was, what I saw in the mirror, and everyone around me! I was DEPRESSED, Angry, and a MEAN PERSON! I was in a dark hole of my life and it was not fair to the ones around me, the people that mattered the most, my family, husband, and most of all MY CHILDREN!  Because I was so miserable with myself I took it out on EVERYONE around me, everything and anything someone around me did was wrong or bothered me! I would fight with my husband for NO reason, yell at my kids for BEING KIDS, and argue with my parents and family over something STUPID!

This past year has been a LIFE CHANGER!!! I have met some AMAZING people who all care about the same thing- Health and Fitness! I started my journey with P90X and saw awesome results and then decided to do Insanity (i didn’t lose a pound but lost inches)! I saw so much support throughout our team that no matter if I had a slip up or a down day, which I had MANY, they were all still there to push me back up and help me through the journey! I say a journey because its not something that happens over night! Yes I was excited about what was to come, but it took work to change my attitude! I would be negative and still said mean things until I started seeing myself change! This was a physical and mental journey, I just did not know yet! I honestly believe that you SUCCEED when you have SUPPORT and when you surround yourself with LIKE-MINDED people!!!

This is when I started feeling COMFORTABLE in my skin! I was helping others reach their fitness goals and started Inspiring my family! This was a huge STEP in my journey! To do it for yourself or your family is one thing, but when you INSPIRE others to do the same thing it makes ALL of the STRUGGLES worth it! I have learnt some valuable lessons from different foods, the body equation, to what really matters and how staying consistent it what make the difference!

The Slimmer Belt: Need help tightening EXTRA skin?




Extra belly fat can make you self conscious about wearing form-fitting clothing or swimwear. Wearing a slimmer belt may be a solution for your stubborn stomach fat. My skin is not NORMAL and probably NEVER will be, but it is tighter and a lot less loose since I started wearing the Slimmer Belt! I wore it the WHOLE way through Insanity. I moved and needed a new one so just started it up again with ChaLEAN Extreme.
A slimmer belt may not help you lose weight effortlessly, but it can help you look better in your clothes. DRINK MORE WATER! WHY it is so important…

Lean Lesson: DRINK CALORIE-FREE BEVERAGES!!!! (Taken from ChaLEAN Extreme Nutrition Guide)

  • Drink 6-8 Eight Ounce glasses of  water a day.
  • A glass of water 30 minutes before a meal will help curb your hunger.
  • Avoid Drinking with your meals. It may slow down your digestion. If you must, limit yourself to a small glass of water.
  • Avoid ALL Sugared Soda.
  • Diet soda and zero-calorie, artificially sweetened beverages are OK in moderation, with a MAXIMUM of 1 a day.
  • Coffee and tea are also fine in MODERATION, but avoid cream and sugar (if you need sweetener, use Stevia, a natural root-based sweetener with no sugar or chemicals.)
  • Seltzer Water with lemon or lime.
  • Herbal Ices teas.
  • Add Lemon or Lime to your water!

WHY is Water so IMPORTANT?!?!

While not everyone agrees on its flavor, water remains essential for life. On average, 61.8 percent of your body weight is water, and water composes roughly 80 percent of your blood and 90 percent of your brain. Because of its nutritional content and its direct availability into your bloodstream, water can significantly boost health while increasing weight loss.

Reduces Fluid Retention

People often believe that drinking water can lead to increased fluid retention. However, it is the consumption of soft drinks, fruit juices and sports drinks, high in sodium, that help to retain fluid. Sodium, found in salty foods and preservatives, triggers cells to retain excess liquid for use in bodily functions. Water helps to flush additional sodium from the kidneys, lowering the amount of fluid in the body and leading to weight loss.

When you drink water as a beverage of choice, you are less likely to choose other drinks which contain sugar and high fructose corn syrup. These drinks, like sodas and sweetened juices, can increase insulin levels, resulting in more sugar stored as fat. So, water causes weight loss by keeping you from drinking beverages that would normally lead to weight gain.

Waste Removal

Drinking plenty of water promotes regularity. Water increases salivary gland functioning and works as a digestive tract lubricant, assisting with the breakdown of food during digestion. Constipation can cause the body to absorb more nutrients like fat from digested particles, and enough stored matter can result in extra pounds on the scale. So, drinking water will help you lose weight by minimizing backed up wastes in the body.

Speeds Metabolism

Studies have shown that drinking ice water can increase the number of calories you burn for a short while. Although scientists disagree on the extent to which drinking cold water helps, at least 8 additional calories are burned with every 8-oz. glass. Moreover, drinking cold water as opposed to a cold soda reduces the amount of calories you take in. Regardless of if it burns additional calories, water helps you lose weight.

Assists with Exercise

In most weight loss plans, the recommendation of exercise requires the refueling of liquids lost to sweat. Water is important to weight loss in the sense that it helps eliminate bad nutrients, balances excess electrolytes from sports drinks, buffers against dehydration and keeps the joints lubricated. Also, by reducing the stress of exercise, water makes it possible to partake in longer workouts, increasing the number of calories burned.

When it comes to exercise, stress relief, and overall health, very little beats out yoga. A study at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center came to the conclusion that just 20 minutes of yoga a week helped cancer patients fall asleep faster and sleep longer. More sleep means giving your face muscles a rest, while also promoting cell turnover—which happens more at night that during the day.

It helps your sex life There are some obvious benefits here like strength, greater flexibility, and more comfort with your body, but there are some real studies behind the idea that yoga can better your bedroom life, too. One study showed that 75 percent of the women who practiced yoga experienced better orgasms, and a recent Harvard study found other sexual benefits. For men, a 2007 study where men were offered Prozac or yoga as a tool to counter premature ejaculation, those who chose the latter “had both subjective and statistically significant improvements” as compared to the guys who picked the drugs (though those helped, too).

It helps you breathe better. And breathing deeply is a key to relaxation. And relaxation is a key to good skin. The end.

It can help detoxify your skin. Between the twisting, the bending, the sweating, and the breathing, you’re actually getting a lot of internal work done: You’re massaging your organs, bringing more oxygen to the body, circulating blood to undernourished areas, and ultimately improving lymphatic flow. This can help balance hormones and detox the body through sweating.

It can slow aging. One study showed that people who exercise are biologically nine years younger than their non-exercising counterparts. This is empirically true, and especially true of yogis. Just look at Russell Simmons or any over-50 person in your yoga class. Instructors  like to say that inversions—headstands, handstands, shoulder stands, and forearm stands—are the great antiagers of yoga. We have no idea why this is true, but we believe what we see.
